The midfield functions as a three man midfield with a carrier and a creative link. Niko and Eduard operate in the central areas to shield the defense and win the second ball, while Jonathan plays as an attacking ten behind the two strikers. Niko focuses on winning possession and driving forward with the ball, whereas Eduard works to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Jonathan occupies the space between the opposition midfield and defense, looking to receive on the half turn and play through the lines to the forwards.

In the attacking phase, San Jose utilizes two forwards in a partnership. Timo and Preston work together to stretch the defense, with one often dropping slightly deeper to link up play while the other looks to make runs in behind. The wing backs, Benji and Dejuan, provide the width needed to pull the opposition wide, allowing Timo and Preston to find pockets of space centrally. When the team wins the ball, the forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
