Celtic Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Sinsalo · Carter Vickers · Donovan · Hassan · Duran · Hogh · McGregor · Baur · Tierney · Forest · Oxlade-ChamberlainCeltic focuses on controlling the tempo and playing through the lines with a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the central areas of the pitch and use high intensity to regain control. The team looks to win the ball back high up the pitch to sustain pressure on the opponent.
Sinsalo operates between the posts to provide security at the back. The defensive unit utilizes a back three where Tierney plays as the left centre-back and Donovan occupies the right centre-back position. Carter Vickers sits in the middle to organize the line and sweep behind the high line when necessary. This defensive block works to stay compact and shift together to deny passing lanes.
The midfield is a crowded engine room that connects the defensive unit to the attack. McGregor sits in a deep role to shield the defence and recycle possession. Baur operates alongside him to help win the second ball and protect the back three. In the higher areas, Forest and Hassan act as central midfielders who move into the half-spaces to find pockets of space. Oxlade-Chamberlain provides extra presence to drive forward with the ball and link the lines together.
The attack relies on a two-man partnership to stretch the defence. Hogh and Duran act as the two forwards, often working in combinations to pull defenders out of position. They press from the front to force long balls and create turnovers in the final third. When the team builds in possession, Hogh and Duran look to make runs in behind or drop deep to link up play with the advancing midfielders.
One major advantage for Celtic is the numerical superiority in midfield which allows them to control the center of the park. The presence of five midfielders makes it difficult for opponents to bypass the central block. Another strength is the ability to create width through the wide midfielders who can push up to support the front line.
This 3-5-2 formation is designed to suffocate opponents who try to play through the middle. It is most effective against teams that struggle to cope with high pressing and intense central competition.
