The lineup is built to sit deep and deny space in the middle before launching attacks. Every player must remain disciplined to ensure the side can transition from a low block into a rapid offensive threat.

David Villa guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back line consists of a back five that functions as a narrow defensive block to protect the central zone. Didier Deschamps acts as the left centre-back, while Javi Martinez and Roberto Baggio occupy the central and right centre-back roles. Baggio provides aerial strength and strength in the duel. Ludovic Giuly operates as a left wing back to provide width, while Pavel Nedved plays as the right wing back. This defensive unit focuses on holding the line and forcing opponents to the flanks.
