Austin FC Soccer Formation
Starting Lineup
DAMIAN (LAS) · RILEY (THOMAS) · JON (BELL) · CHRISTOPHER (APPLEWHITE) · ZAN (KOLMANIC) · ERVIN (TORRES) · JORGE (ALASTUEY) · MICAH (BURTON) · MATEJA (DJORDJEVIC) · PRZEMYSLAW (PLACHETA) · BRANDON (VAZQUEZ)Austin FC looks to control the center of the pitch through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup relies on a high press and quick transitions to disrupt the opposition. The tactical goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and use the central density to dominate territory. Austin FC aims to play a vertical style that moves the ball quickly from the defensive third to the forwards.
Damian sits between the posts to command the area and organize the back line. A back three consists of Christopher on the left, Jon in the middle, and Mateja on the right. Christopher and Mateja act as wide centre-backs to cover the space when the wing backs push up. Jon holds the line and acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks. The unit functions as a compact block to defend the central zone and prevent through balls.
The midfield relies on a three-man midfield with a carrier and two wide players to provide width. Micah operates as an attacking ten behind the strikers to link the lines and find pockets of space. Ervin and Jorge occupy the central areas to shield the defence and recycle possession. Riley and Zan operate as wing backs to provide width, helping to stretch the defence. Ervin and Jorge work to win the second ball and progress through the thirds.
Austin FC uses two forwards in a partnership to pressure the opposition back line. Brandon and Przemyslaw operate as a front two, working to press the defenders and make runs in behind. Brandon often looks to link up play between the lines while Przemyslaw acts as a presence to hold up the ball. The wing backs, Riley and Zan, provide the width by overlapping to deliver crosses into the box. This allows the forwards to attack the near post or far post depending on the service.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when Riley and Zan push high. The central density provided by Micah, Ervin, and Jorge allows the team to win the ball back high up the pitch. Another strength is the compactness when defending in a mid-block. This makes it difficult for opponents to play through the middle.
The 3-5-2 lineup is built to dominate the central areas and use width through the wing backs. This setup is best suited for games against teams that play with a narrow midfield.
