Pachuca Football Formation
Starting Lineup
CARLOS (MORENO) · CARLOS (SÁNCHEZ) · SERGIO (BARRETO) · EDUARDO (BAUERMANN) · FRANCISCO (VENEGAS) · CHRISTIAN (RIVERA) · ALÁN (BAUTISTA) · ANDRÉS (ARROYO) · OUSSAMA (IDRISSI) · ALEXÉI (DOMÍNGUEZ) · SALOMÓN (RONDÓN)Pachuca focuses on a heavy high press and lightning fast transitions using a 5-2-3. This formation is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and use the width of the field to stretch the opposition. The lineup prioritizes verticality, looking to move the ball from the defensive third to the strikers in as few passes as possible.
Carlos acts as the last line of defense behind a five man back line. Christian and Sergio form the central core of the defense, with Christian acting as the primary ball playing defender while Sergio provides coverage. Eduardo sits to the left of the central pair to complete the three man central block. The wing backs, Francisco and Carlos, provide the necessary width. Francisco and Carlos are expected to push high to support the attack, while also tracking back to defend the flanks when the team loses possession.
The midfield consists of a double pivot with Andrés and Alán. These two players must cover a lot of ground to shield the defense. Alán works to intercept passes and win the second ball in the middle of the park, while Andrés acts as the carrier to drive the ball forward. They link the defensive unit to the front three, often dropping deep to pick up the ball from the center backs to start a build up.
In the attacking third, Pachuca utilizes three attackers. Salomón plays as a lone striker, acting as a target man to hold up the ball and bring others into play. Alexéi and Oussama operate as wide wingers who stay close to the touchline to create space in the middle. Alexéi often looks to cut inside to find shooting lanes, while Oussama looks to get to the byline and whip it in. This front line is designed to press the opposition back line constantly, forcing mistakes that lead to quick breaks.
This formation offers Pachuca several tactical advantages. The five man defense provides great compactness when defending in a mid block, making it hard for opponents to play through the center. By using wide wing backs like Francisco and Carlos, the team creates wide overloads that force the opposition to pull defenders out of position. This creates more space for Salomán to work in the box.
Pachuca relies on this setup to dominate games through high intensity pressing and rapid attacking transitions. It is a system best suited for facing teams that try to build play slowly from the back.
