Pachuca focuses on a direct style of play built around a compact 5-3-2. This formation relies on heavy defensive solidity and lightning fast transitions to catch opponents out of position. The team is designed to absorb pressure and then hit in behind on the transition using the pace of the two forwards.

José operates between the posts as the last line of defense. The back line functions as a narrow defensive block featuring a back three where Lenin acts as the central figure to command the area. Pedro and Jorge sit on either side of Lenin to provide cover and win the second ball. To provide width, Sebastián and Mauricio act as attacking wing backs who are expected to push high up the pitch. This allows the central trio of Pedro, Jorge, and Lenin to stay compact and defend zonally when the team sits deep.

The midfield operates as a three man midfield with a carrier to help move the play forward. Rodolfo sits in the center to shield the defense and recycle possession. On either side, Kenedy and Nicolás work to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Kenedy and Nicolás are tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high when the team moves into a mid-block. This midfield unit must remain disciplined to ensure they do not leave the central defenders exposed during transitions.

Pachuca utilizes two forwards in a partnership to stretch the opposition. Adrián and Illian work together to pin the last defender and create space for others. While one forward might hold up the ball, the other looks to make runs in behind the defense. The attacking unit is designed to press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. When the wing backs Sebastián and Mauricio get forward, they look to deliver early crosses to find the feet of the striker or hit the near post.

One major advantage for Pachuca is the ability to create wide overloads from overlapping full backs. When Sebastián and Mauricio push up, they create situations where they can isolate wide players in one on one battles. Another strength is the compactness when defending in a low block, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the lines. This setup allows the team to maintain a strong central presence while still having the capacity to break quickly.

This formation provides Pachuca with a solid foundation for absorbing pressure and hitting on the break. It is best suited for games against teams that dominate possession and leave space behind their high defensive line.
