Starting Lineup

Roefs · Vuskovic · Ramon · Kayode · Hall · Perrone · Scott · Nico Paz · Baturina · Rayan · Kroupi

Newcastle focuses on a high press and rapid transitions using a 4-5-1. This formation is built to squeeze the pitch and win the ball high up the pitch to catch opponents out of position. The team looks to dominate the middle of the park and quickly move the ball into the final third.

Roefs acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back line functions as a flat back four that can shift to maintain a high line. Hall operates as a left back to provide width while Kayode covers the right side. Vuskovic and Ramon form the central pairing, with Vuskovic tasked to be dominant in the air and Ramon to cover space behind him. The defensive unit works to hold the line and push up to compress the space for the opposition.

The midfield is a five man unit that provides heavy coverage across the pitch. Scott and Perrone play as a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Nico Paz and Baturina act as two tens in the half spaces to connect the lines and drive forward with the ball. Rayan operates on the left side of this midfield block to help recycle possession and press aggressively. This midfield core works to protect the center while looking to break the line through quick passing.

Newcastle utilizes a lone striker in Kroupi to lead the line. Kroupi acts as a pressing centre forward to harass the opposition back line and force a long ball. The wide midfielders must tuck in to support the central presence while also providing width. The attack is built through combinations in tight spaces and quick movements to create runs in behind. When the ball moves wide, the forwards look to find the feet of the striker or deliver early balls into the box.

A major strength of this lineup is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to force turnovers. The double pivot of Scott and Perrone allows the team to maintain compactness when defending. Newcastle also benefits from the speed of transition when the midfield wins the ball back high up the pitch. This allows the wide players and Kroupi to attack the space before the opposition can settle.

This formation relies on a high intensity press and quick verticality to unsettle the opponent. It is best suited for games against teams that try to play out from the back and leave space behind their midfield.
