Estudiantes (LP) aim to control matches through a high press and quick verticality using a 3-4-3. This formation is built to stretch the opposition and pin the last defender through aggressive wide play. The team relies on winning the ball high up the pitch to create immediate goal-scoring chances.
F. Muslera acts as the last line of defense behind a narrow defensive block. The back three consists of M. Rojo (C), T. Palacios, and S. Núñez. M. Rojo (C) uses his experience to organize the line and sweep behind the defense when the team plays a high line. S. Núñez and T. Palacios act as ball playing defenders to help play short from the back. This unit functions to stay compact and deny the turn to any incoming strikers.
The midfield operates as a box with two central midfielders and two wide players. F. Peña* and A. Castro form a central pairing where F. Peña* works to press aggressively and win it back high up the pitch. A. Castro helps to connect the defensive and attacking lines by recycling possession. On the flanks, E. Mancuso and G. Benedetti act as wide midfielders who provide width and are expected to overlap the winger to create overloads.
The attacking line uses three attackers to stretch the defence. J. Correa and B. Rollheiser* play as inverted wingers who cut inside to create central presence, while G. Carrillo operates as a pressing centre-forward. G. Carrillo works to find the feet of the striker and pin the defenders, while the wingers look to deliver early crosses or cut it back from the byline. The front three work to trigger a press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
Estudiantes (LP) benefit from wide overloads when E. Mancuso and G. Benedetti push forward. This creates many one on one situations for the attackers. The team also gains numerical superiority in the middle when the wide players tuck inside to join A. Castro and F. Peña*. This movement allows the team to switch play quickly and find runners in behind.
This 3-4-3 formation focuses on high intensity pressing and rapid transitions. It is best suited for games against opponents who try to build play from the back and leave space behind their midfield.
