Starting Lineup

SK Rapid plays a high risk, aggressive style of football built on a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball back high up the pitch and using a heavy presence in the center and wide areas to overwhelm opponents. By committing so many bodies forward, SK Rapid seeks to control the game through constant pressure and quick vertical movements.

Hedl operates as the lone goalkeeper behind a very thin defensive line. Raux Yao and Schöller function as the two central defenders in a high line, tasked with covering massive amounts of space behind them. These two must be ready to sprint back to sweep behind the defense if the opposition plays a ball into the channels. Because there are no wide defenders, the defensive unit relies on the midfielders to track back and protect the flanks to prevent being caught in transition.

The midfield is a massive five man block designed to dominate the center of the pitch. Bolla acts as the single pivot to shield the defense, while J. Auer works alongside him to provide stability. Seidl and Oswald operate as two advanced midfielders who drive forward with the ball to support the attack. Y. Demir plays as the attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space between the lines and play through the lines. This midfield unit works to compress the space and win the second ball whenever possession is lost.

The attacking trio uses a wide presence to stretch the defense. Dahl plays as a left winger who stays wide to pull defenders out of position, while Radulovic operates on the right wing to provide width. Wurmbrand acts as the lone striker and pressing centre forward, leading the hunt for the ball from the front. The attack is built through quick combinations in the final third, aiming to deliver early crosses or cut it back from the byline. These forwards work to pin the last defender and create runs in behind.

A major strength of this formation is the massive numerical superiority in the midfield, which makes it difficult for opponents to play through the center. The presence of Y. Demir and the two wide attackers also allows for wide overloads that can isolate defenders in one on one situations. This setup makes the team very dangerous when they win the ball high up the pitch and can transition instantly.
