Starting Lineup

Baines acts as the central anchor while Ruben and Bats provide cover to the sides. Madu plays as a left wing back to provide width, while Emiliio operates on the right to cover the entire flank. This five man line can shift to a narrow defensive block to deny the opponent any room to play through the middle.

The midfield operates as a three man midfield with a carrier and a creative link. Andreas and Max occupy the central spaces to shield the defense and recycle possession. Andreas works to win the second ball while Max carries the ball forward to link the lines. Rodrigo plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space between the lines. This trio works to compress the midfield and prevent opponents from playing through the center.

Hamburg utilizes two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. Fitzergald and Simone act as the two central attackers who press the opposition back line from the front. Fitzergald works to find runs in behind while Simone plays to hold up the ball and lay it off to incoming runners. The wing backs, Madu and Emiliio, provide the width by overlapping the winger positions to deliver crosses. This movement creates chances to hit in behind on the transition.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to use wide overloads from overlapping full backs. When the team wins the ball, the quick transition allows Emiliio and Madu to push high and create two on one situations. The team also benefits from extreme compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to find gaps.
