Chelsea focuses on a high press and verticality through a 4-2-4. This formation is built to stretch the defence and pin the last defender by using extreme width and heavy numbers in the final third. The team aims to win the ball high up the pitch and strike immediately before the opponent can settle.

MOODY starts in goal to command the area during transitions. The defensive line operates as a flat back four with YOUNG as the right back and DOWLING as the left back. Both full backs are expected to push high to support the attack. In the middle, PATERSON and L. HARD work as a central pairing, where PATERSON acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks and L. HARD covers the space behind. The defensive unit must hold the line carefully to avoid being caught by long balls.

The midfield functions as a double pivot to provide balance. PANINE and C. TUFAN sit in front of the back four to protect the central areas. PANINE is tasked to shield the defence and win the second ball, while C. TUFAN works to connect the defensive and attacking lines by receiving the ball from the defenders. This duo must be disciplined to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines, acting as a screen to allow the forwards to stay high.

Chelsea utilizes four attackers to overwhelm the opposition back line. AIESH plays as a wide winger on the left and CONSTANTINI operates as an inverted winger on the right to cut inside and create space. In the center, CARLETON and TOYLE act as a two forwards partnership. CARLETON can act as a pressing centre-forward to force a long ball, while TOYLE works to hold up the ball and find the feet of the attackers. This front line is designed to create runs in behind and isolate wide players in one on one situations.

One major advantage of this lineup is the ability to create wide overloads when YOUNG and DOWLING overlap the wingers. The heavy presence in the attacking third allows Chelsea to press in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build from the back. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the team can quickly move from a mid-block to a direct attacking move with four players already advanced.

This 4-2-4 formation prioritizes aggression and attacking pressure. It is best suited for games where the opponent plays a high line and can be punished with quick vertical passes.
