The midfield consists of a double pivot to manage the transition from defense to attack. S Zikhali and S Hlangabeza sit in front of the back four to shield the defense and recycle possession. S Zikhali and S Hlangabeza act as the engine, where one player looks to carry the ball forward while the other stays deeper to deny the pivot of the opposition. They link the back four to the four attackers by playing short from the back and finding the runners in advanced positions.

AmaZulu deploy four attackers to pin the last defender and create chaos. N Radebe and M Mbanjwa operate as wide wingers who look to get to the byline or cut inside to create chances. In the center, A Maqokola and T Ngwenya act as two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. A Maqokola and T Ngwenya press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. This front line uses combination play to create runs in behind or deliver crosses into the box.

One main advantage of this AmaZulu formation is the ability to create wide overloads and isolate players in one on one situations. By having N Radebe and M Mbanjwa spread wide, they stretch the defense and open gaps for the central strikers.
