FW Kouassi stays between the posts to command his area. The defensive unit operates in a back five with G Lopes acting as the central anchor to hold the line. S Mthethwa plays as the right centre back to cover the space while R Hanamub acts as the left centre back. The wide defenders are expected to provide width and cover the flanks, with K Phillips acting as an attacking wing back on the right and O Mdaka doing the same on the left. This defensive block remains compact to deny central passing lanes.

In the middle of the pitch, AmaZulu uses a double pivot to manage the transition from defence to attack. S Hlangabeza and S Zikhali work together to control the center. S Hlangabeza provides the grit to win the second ball while S Zikhali looks to connect the lines and recycle possession.
