Man City focuses on high pressing and dominance in the center of the pitch with a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to control the tempo of the game and squeeze the space in the middle third. Matev sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line operates as a narrow defensive block with Rutherford acting as the central defender to hold the line and command the area. This trio is tasked with playing out from the back to start attacks and must be ready to step up to catch opponents offside.

The midfield engine is the core of the Man City system, utilizing a three-man midfield with a carrier and two holding players. P. Velev and Ventresca form a double pivot to shield the defence and intercept passes before they reach the back three. Alex Jurado and Wilkinson operate as inverted eights to connect the defensive and attacking lines, with the ability to drive forward with the ball into the half spaces. In the final third, the team uses two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defence. Mamedov and Monzón work in close combinations to link up play between the lines. Mamedov often plays as a pressing centre-forward to force long balls from the opposition, while Monzón works to find the feet of the striker or make runs in behind. The formation relies on the midfielders to arrive late into the box to support this front two, creating a constant threat through both central penetration and rapid transitions.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through numerical superiority in midfield and the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By using five midfielders, the team can easily congest the center and deny the turn to opposition playmakers. The presence of Miralió in the hole allows the team to pin the last defender, creating more room for the two strikers to operate in one on one situations.
