The midfield functions as a flat four designed to congest the center. Djuricic acts as the single pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Bojan works in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Schurlle and Okazaki operate as two central midfielders who press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch. These four players work to pick up runners and squeeze the space in the middle of the park.
