Como focuses on being a highly vertical team that looks to score as many goals as possible, utilizing a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition with numbers in the final third and quick transitions. By pushing the team forward, Como aims to pin the opposition back and create chances through rapid ball movement.
In front of the goal, 84 stays between the posts to manage the defensive line. The defense works as a flat back four, with 85 acting as the right back and 82 as the left back to provide width. The two central defenders, 94 and 98, must hold the line and defend zonally to stop runs in behind. Because this formation pushes so many players forward, 94 and 98 have to be ready to drop deep and cover wide areas if the opposition breaks quickly.
The midfield consists of a double pivot to help control the center of the pitch. 87 and 86 work as the two central midfielders, tasked with shielding the defense and recycling possession. One of them needs to drop between the center backs to help play out from the back, while the other must carry the ball forward to connect the defensive and attacking lines. This pair must work hard to win the second ball and prevent the opposition from playing through the middle.
The attacking unit is very aggressive, employing two strikers and two wide attackers. 92 and 87 act as the two central forwards, looking to find the feet of the striker or run in behind the defense. On the flanks, 91 and 85 act as wide wingers who can either hug the touchline to stretch the defense or cut inside to create more central presence. The team looks to attack in combinations, using the forwards to press from the front and force a long ball from the opposition.
A major advantage for Como is the ability to create wide overloads and put massive pressure on the opponent's back line. With four players high up the pitch, the team can isolate wide players in one on one situations very effectively. Additionally, the formation allows for high pressing in coordinated waves, making it difficult for the opposition to build play from the back.
This 4-2-4 formation is a high risk, high reward system designed for total attack. It is best suited for games where Como needs to chase a result against a team that sits deep in a low block.
