Starting Lineup

I. Radu · Coubis · Dragusin · Ghita · Baluta · Ratiu · Bancu · Razvan Marin · Ianis Hagi · Man · Munteanu

Romania focuses on a high press and quick transitions using a 3-5-2. This formation is built to control the middle of the pitch and use intense pressure to win the ball high up the pitch. The team looks to use the numbers in central areas to suffocate opponents and break quickly once the ball is recovered.

I. Radu operates between the posts to organize the back line. The defense utilizes a back three where Dragusin acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks. Ghita and Coubis sit on either side to cover the space and defend zonally. The defensive unit must stay compact to prevent runners from getting behind, with the three defenders working together to squeeze the space when the opposition tries to build from the back.

The midfield is a five man unit that connects the defense to the attack. Baluta sits centrally to shield the defense and win the second ball. Ratiu and Bancu act as the engine, with Ratiu driving forward with the ball to support the advance. Razvan Marin and Ianis Hagi operate in the half spaces as attacking midfielders who can push into the box or drop to link play. This midfield block is designed to compress the midfield and make it difficult for the opponent to play through the lines.

Romania uses two forwards in a partnership to lead the attack. Munteanu works as a pressing centre forward to harass the opposition back line and force long balls. Man plays alongside him, looking to exploit spaces and receive the ball in transition. The wide areas are supported by the midfield, which allows the forwards to stay central and focus on runs in behind. The team builds attacks by playing through the lines or using the wide midfielders to stretch the defence.

One major advantage for Romania is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows them to dominate central play. The presence of Razvan Marin and Ianis Hagi provides an ability to press high in coordinated waves. Additionally, the back three of Dragusin, Ghita, and Coubis provides compactness when defending against teams that use two strikers.

This 3-5-2 formation allows Romania to control the tempo through central dominance and high pressure. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back under heavy pressure.
