Flamengo aims to control the tempo through possession with a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup focuses on controlling the middle of the pitch to maintain dominance and stifle the opposition through a dense central presence. Rossi sits between the posts to start the build up. The defense operates as a flat back four with E. Royal playing as a right back and A. Lucas providing width on the left. Léo Ortiz and Léo Pereira form the central pairing, where Léo Ortiz acts as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back while Léo Pereira provides cover. The defensive unit works together to squeeze the space between the lines and ensure they stay hard to beat.

A five man midfield serves as the engine for Flamengo. Jorginho acts as a single pivot to shield the defense and sit deep to receive from the back. Beside him, E. Pulgar works to win the second ball and break up play. G. Plata and S. Lino occupy the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while Arrascaeta operates in the hole to create chances. This midfield group is designed to dominate the ball and press in a mid block when the opposition tries to move forward.

The attacking phase relies on a lone striker, Pedro, who acts as a target man to hold up the ball. Because the midfield is so crowded, the team builds play through combinations in the center before looking to spread wide. The wingers or wide midfielders must provide width to stretch the defence, allowing Pedro to find space or link up play between the lines. When the team transitions, they look to hit in behind with quick passes to find Pedro or late runs from Arrascaeta.

This formation offers significant numerical superiority in midfield, making it very difficult for opponents to pass through the center. Flamengo can also use the wide midfielders to create overloads when the full backs push forward. The density of players in the middle allows for high compactness when defending, forcing the opponent to play wide where they can be contained.
