Starting Lineup

Adamsen · Wurmbrand · Seidl · Y. Demir · J. Auer · Bolla · Raux Yao · Schöller · Dahl · Horn · Hedl

SK Rapid prioritizes a high press and verticality through a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup looks to win the ball back high up the pitch and move through the thirds with speed. The intention is to overload the central areas and create chaos in the opposition defensive line.

Hedl stays between the posts to act as a sweeper behind a very high line. The back two consist of Raux Yao and Schöller who must be ready to step up and defend large spaces. Raux Yao and Schöller need to stay compact to avoid being caught out when the team pushes forward. This two man back line relies on quick recovery runs if the initial press is broken.

The midfield is a massive engine room that connects the defense to the front three. Bolla and J. Auer act as a double pivot to shield the two central defenders and recycle possession. Horn and Seidl operate as two tens in the half spaces to provide width and support. Y. Demir plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space and play through the lines.

The attack features three players across the front to pin the last defender. Dahl and Wurmbrand act as wide wingers who stretch the defence by staying near the touchlines. Adamsen plays as a lone striker to find the feet of the striker and lead the press from the front. Dahl and Wurmbrand aim to cut inside or hit in behind on the transition to create scoring chances.

SK Rapid gains a massive advantage through numerical superiority in the midfield. The five players in the center can easily outnumber most standard midfields to win the second ball. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves using the front three and the attacking midfielder. This forces the opponent to play long and allows the defenders to clear the lines easily.

This 2-5-3 formation is built to dominate territory through aggressive pressing and central control. It is best suited for games where the opponent tries to play out from the back against a heavy press.
