Inter focuses on being defensively solid and playing with a strong verticality through a 5-3-2. This formation is built to absorb pressure and hit opponents with quick transitions. In front of the goal, 82 acts as the last line of defense. The defensive unit employs a back five that functions with great cohesion. The central defenders consisting of 100, 87, and 100 sit in a narrow defensive block to protect the middle. The RCB 100 and LCB 100 are expected to win the header and clear the lines when under heavy pressure. Meanwhile, the wing backs 94 on the right and 100 on the left act as attacking wing backs. They provide the necessary width by pushing up the flank, but they must track back to help the central trio when the ball is lost.

The midfield consists of a three-man midfield with a carrier to move the team forward. The central midfielder 90 sits in front of the back five to shield the defense and deny the pivot. To his sides, the RCM 87 and LCM 89 work to connect the defensive and attacking lines. These players are tasked to press in a mid-block to win the ball and immediately look to progress through the thirds. The midfield unit works to compress the midfield, ensuring that no space is left for the opposition to play through the lines.

Up front, Inter uses two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defense. The RS 94 and LS 90 act as a duo that can either hold up the ball or make runs in behind. They press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. When the wing backs 94 and 100 overlap, the forwards can drop slightly to create link-up play between the lines or pull wide to create space for late runs.
