Banfield plays a heavy defensive game built on a compact low block, using a 5-3-2 formation. The intent of this lineup is to absorb pressure and hit teams on the break with direct verticality. This formation works to squeeze the space between the lines and forces opponents to try and play around the sides rather than through the middle.

In front of the goal, Murillo stays central to organize the unit. The defense operates as a back five with Sampaio acting as the central anchor. He is flanked by Valdez Funes on the left and Mina on the right. Both Valdez Funes and Mina work to cover the channels while Sampaio holds the line. On the flanks, Rosa and Perez act as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing width and tracking back to form a narrow defensive block when the opposition has the ball.

The midfield operates as a three-man midfield with a single pivot. Sandoval sits in front of the defense to shield the back five and intercept passes. Next to him, Ponce and Sarmiento occupy the central areas to connect the defensive unit with the attack. Ponce and Sarmiento work to win the second ball and move the ball forward quickly once possession is regained. Sandoval is responsible for sitting deep and ensuring the team remains hard to break down in the middle third.

Banfield utilizes two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. Estigarribia and Menendez work as a pair to press the opposition back line and stretch the defense. Estigarribia often looks to find the feet of the striker or play with his back to goal, while Menendez looks to run in behind the defenders. They use combinations to move past the opposition, often relying on the wing backs, Rosa and Perez, to provide crosses from the wide areas to support the two forwards.

This formation provides great compactness when defending in a low block. By having five defenders and three midfielders, Banfield creates a wall that is difficult to pass through. Another strength is the ability to transition quickly, using the wide runs of Rosa and Perez to create overloads on the flanks during a counter attack.

The 5-3-2 formation relies on a disciplined defensive unit and quick verticality. It is best suited for matches against possession based teams where Banfield can sit deep and exploit the space left behind.
