Starting Lineup

Tala · C. Montes · J. Vasquez · Reyes · M. Chavez · E. Lira · Mora · Quiñones · S. Sandoval · Hormiga · Alvarado

Mexico focuses on a high press and verticality using a 4-3-3. The lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch to create quick transitions. This formation is built to stretch the defence and use wide areas to bypass the midfield.

Tala starts between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit operates as a flat back four with Reyes and M. Chavez acting as full backs. Reyes provides width on the right while M. Chavez is tasked to overlap and support the attack. In the center, C. Montes and J. Vasquez form the core of the defence. C. Montes acts as a ball playing defender to help play out from the back, while J. Vasquez focuses on defending zonally and covering space.

The midfield works to control the central area through a three-man midfield with a carrier. E. Lira and S. Sandoval work to control the tempo and recycle possession to keep the team moving forward. Mora plays in the advanced role, acting as an attacking ten behind the striker to find space between the lines. Mora is responsible to connect the defensive and attacking lines by receiving the ball in tight spaces. This trio works to compress the midfield when the team is out of possession to force a long ball from the opponent.

Mexico utilizes three attackers across the front to pin the last defender. Hormiga plays as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of the striker coming from deep. On the flanks, Quiñones and Alvarado act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create central overloads. Quiñones and Alvarado press from the front to trigger a press. This movement allows the full backs to push high and deliver early crosses into the box.

This lineup offers the advantage of a high press in coordinated waves to win the ball back high up the pitch. The team creates wide overloads when M. Chavez and Reyes push forward to support the wingers. Mexico can also exploit the space behind the opposition defence through quick transitions once the ball is won.

The 4-3-3 formation is a high intensity system designed to dominate through pressing. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
