Starting Lineup
J.Heredia · O.Nonna · M.Paramio · A.Schilde · M.Nonna · A.Gibelli · G.Novillo · P.Bueno · M.Nahara · J.M.Reyna · A.SchildeA heavy emphasis on controlling the middle and overwhelming the opposition in their own half defines this lineup. The team operates in a 2-5-3 formation that prioritizes a high press and a crowded central zone to dominate play. This setup is built to pin the opponent back and use numbers to win the ball high up the pitch.
J.Heredia stays between the posts to act as the last line of defense. Behind the midfield, M.Paramio and O.Nonna form a back two that must play with a high line to squeeze the space. These central defenders need to be prepared to cover large amounts of grass if the ball is played into the channels. Because there are only two players in the defensive line, they must be dominant in the air and quick to intercept any long balls that bypass the midfield.
The midfield is a massive engine room designed to control the tempo and intercept passes. A three-man midfield consisting of M.Nonna, A.Schilde, and A.Gibelli works to win the second ball and recycle possession. A.Schilde and A.Gibelli act as central carriers who can drive forward with the ball to break the line. They are supported by the advanced roles of A.Schilde and G.Novillo who operate in the half-spaces. A.Schilde pushes higher to link the middle to the front three, while G.Novillo works to find pockets of space to receive on the half-turn. This unit connects the defense to the attack by providing constant passing options.
The front three focuses on stretching the opposition defense through wide movements and central presence. M.Nahara acts as the focal point as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. P.Bueno stays wide on the right to provide width, while J.M.Reyna operates on the left. These wide players are expected to cut inside to create overloads in the box. The attacking unit presses the opposition back line to force a long ball. They use combinations to find gaps, often looking for runs in behind or cutbacks from the byline once they reach the flank.
One major advantage of this formation is the massive numerical superiority in the midfield, which makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the center. The team can also create wide overloads because the advanced midfielders can push into the channels to support the wingers. This high density in the middle allows the side to win it back high up the pitch and launch immediate attacks.
This 2-5-3 formation relies on a relentless high press and central dominance to dictate games. It is best suited for facing opponents who struggle to play out from the back or those who lack the speed to exploit the space behind the high defensive line.
