Juventus Football Formation
Starting Lineup
BUFFON · BARZAGLI · BONUCCI · CHIELLINI · ALEX (SANDRO) · KHEDIRA · ??? · DANI (ALVES) · DYBALA · MANDŽUKIĆ · HIGUAINJuventus prefers to control matches through a high press and solid central presence using a 3-5-2. This formation relies on a strong spine to dictate play and win the ball back high up the pitch. The lineup is designed to dominate the middle of the park and use the width provided by wing backs to stretch the opposition.
Buffon sits between the posts as the last line of defence in this setup. The back three features Barzagli, Bonucci, and Chiellini forming a narrow defensive block. Bonucci acts as the ball playing centre back to start attacks, while Chiellini and Barzagli provide physical strength and cover behind him. They often step up to set the offside trap and ensure the space behind them is limited. This unit is incredibly difficult to break down when they defend zonally and remain compact.
The midfield operates with a three man midfield with a carrier and two wide players to provide coverage. Khedira and the unnamed RCM player work to squeeze the space in the middle, with Khedira often making late runs into the box. Alex and Dani act as wing backs, spreading wide to provide width and track back when defending. Dybala operates in the hole as an advanced midfielder playing as a shadow striker, looking to find the feet of the striker or receive on the half-turn to create chances.
Juventus uses a partnership of two forwards to lead the line. Mandzukic acts as a pressing centre forward to bother the opposition back line, while Higuain works to link up play between the lines and find space in the channels. Mandzukic uses his work rate to press from the front, allowing Dybala to find pockets of space. The team attacks in combinations, looking to use the wing backs to overlap the winger and deliver crosses into the box for Mandzukic and Higuain to attack.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its central density and ability to win the second ball. The presence of three central defenders makes Juventus very hard to beat in the air and during set pieces. Additionally, the ability to transition from a mid-block to a high press allows them to catch opponents out of position. By having Dybala drop deep, they create numerical superiority in midfield during the build up phase.
The 3-5-2 formation gives Juventus a way to dominate central areas while maintaining width. It is a setup best suited for matches against teams that try to play through the middle.
