Starting Lineup

Naderi · Pansur · Gassama · Neil · Raskin · Sterling · Fernandez · Makanya · Rommens · Kelsey · Minsu

Rangers operate with a focus on defensive solidity and quick transitions, employing a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit in a mid-block and wait for the right moment to strike. The goal is to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch and force the opposition into wide areas where they can be contained.

Pansur guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back line works as a flat back four to maintain compactness. Sterling acts as a defensive wing back on the right, while Rommens covers the left flank. In the center, Makanya and Fernandez act as the central defenders, with Makanya providing cover and Fernandez focusing on winning the headers. This unit works to hold the line and deny the turn to any oncoming attackers.

The midfield consists of a double pivot paired with three more advanced players. Raskin and Neil sit deep to shield the defense and win the second ball. Raskin is tasked with breaking the lines through passing, while Neil focuses on intercepting play. Minsu plays in the right half-space to connect the lines, and Gassama operates on the left to drive forward with the ball. Naderi plays as an attacking ten, sitting behind the lone striker to pick up runners and create chances in the final third.

Rangers use a lone striker in Kelsey to lead the press from the front. Kelsey acts as a target man to hold up the ball and allow the midfield to move up the pitch. The wide midfielders help provide width, while Naderi looks to slip through balls to Kelsey. When the team wins the ball back high up the pitch, they look to hit in behind on the transition with direct runs. The movement relies on Kelsey to pin the last defender, creating space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box.

A major advantage of this formation is the ability to compress the midfield and deny the pivot of the opposition. By packing the central areas with Raskin, Neil, Minsu, Gassama, and Naderi, Rangers make it difficult for opponents to play through the lines. Another strength is the speed of transition when Kelsey receives the ball and can quickly lay it off to the oncoming midfielders.

This formation provides a sturdy defensive base that relies on a compact block and rapid counter attacks. It is best suited for games against dominant teams where Rangers need to sit deep and exploit space on the break.
