Independiente prioritizes a defensively solid identity built around a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is designed to sit deep and absorb pressure before hitting the opposition in transition. By occupying much of the central space, the team aims to force opponents out wide and then quickly break to exploit the space behind the opposition defensive line.

In goal, PINTO acts as the last line of defense. The defensive unit operates as a back five, utilizing a narrow defensive block to protect the center. BRITE sits in the middle of the defense, acting as the central pillar to clear the lines and organize the unit. GROMENIDA and WALLINGRE A provide coverage on either side as wide centre-backs, with GROMENIDA leaning towards the right and WALLINGRE A covering the left. To provide width, WALLINGRE M and WALLINGRE J act as attacking wing backs, pushing up the flanks to support the attack while being expected to track back and cover the wide areas when the team loses possession.

The midfield functions as a three-man midfield with a carrier. PORTILLO operates in the center to shield the defense and win the second ball, while BUSATTO and FOCHESATTO operate in the half-spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. PORTILLO works to deny the pivot of the opposition and recycle possession when needed. BUSATTO and FOCHESATTO are tasked to carry the ball forward into the middle third, helping to transition the ball from the back five into the attacking third. This trio works to compress the midfield and ensure the team remains compact when defending in a mid-block.

Independiente utilizes two forwards in a partnership to lead the attack. ARCE and RODRIGUEZ operate as a duo, often looking to run in behind the opposition defense. ARCE plays as a left striker to link play, while RODRIGUEZ acts as a right striker. The two forwards are expected to press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. When the team wins the ball, the wing backs WALLINGRE M and WALLINGRE J provide width to stretch the defense, allowing ARCE and RODRIGUEZ to find space in central areas or receive the ball through the lines.

This formation offers several tactical advantages for Independiente. The back five provides great compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the center. The presence of attacking wing backs allows for wide overloads when they push forward, creating situations where they can whip it in for the two strikers.
