Famalicão focuses on a direct and aggressive style of play through a 4-2-4. This formation aims to pin the opposition back and use heavy numbers in the final third to overwhelm the defense. The lineup is built to transition quickly from a central block into a high attacking wave.

In goal, 80 acts as the last line of defense. The back line operates as a flat back four, with 78 at right back and 74 at left back. The central defenders, 75 and 78, work together to defend zonally and hold the line. They focus on winning the second ball and clearing the lines when under pressure. The wide defenders are expected to track back to cover the flanks when the team loses possession, maintaining a compact defensive unit to deny the turn to opposing attackers.

The midfield is a double pivot consisting of 77 and 80. These two players are tasked with shielding the defense and recycling possession to the wide areas. 80 acts as a primary link between the defense and the attack, while 77 works to intercept passes and win the ball in a mid-block. This pairing must be disciplined to ensure they do not get bypassed when the team pushes high up the pitch. They aim to compress the midfield to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

Famalicão utilizes four attackers to create constant pressure on the opposition back line. The wide players, 76 on the right and 80 on the left, act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goalscoring opportunities. In the center, 77 and 76 operate as a partnership of two forwards. One often acts as a target man to hold up the ball, while the other looks to make runs in behind. This front four works to press from the front, forcing the opposition to play long balls that the defensive unit can intercept.

A major strength of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads and force the opponent into a low block. By having four dedicated attackers, Famalicão can pin the last defender and stretch the defense vertically. The speed of transition from the double pivot to the front four allows the team to hit in behind on the transition before the opposition can regroup.

This 4-2-4 formation is designed for high intensity and rapid attacking transitions. It is best suited for matches against teams that sit deep and struggle to deal with constant pressure in the box.
