Göztepe plays with a focus on direct verticality and heavy attacking pressure through a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition in the final third by packing the attacking lines and forcing mistakes in the opponent's half. By committing many players forward, Göztepe looks to win the ball back high up the pitch and strike before the defense can settle.

The defensive unit relies on 71 to command the area from goal. Because the formation uses only two central defenders in 78 and 77, the team maintains a very high line to compress the space. These two must be capable of covering large amounts of ground and winning headers to stop long balls. The defensive unit functions by squeezing the space between the lines, meaning the two center backs must be ready to step up and intercept passes or engage strikers early.

In the middle of the pitch, the team utilizes a four man midfield to link the defense and the attack. A central pairing of 80 and 78 works to control the tempo, with 80 often acting as the carrier to drive forward with the ball. To provide extra support, 74 and 77 operate in the half spaces, with 77 acting as an attacking ten who looks to play through the lines. This midfield block is designed to win the second ball and quickly find the forwards as soon as possession is regained.

The attacking line is incredibly potent, utilizing four players to stretch the defense. The two center forwards, 81 and 80, work as a partnership to pin the last defender and find space in the box. On the flanks, 76 and 75 act as wide wingers who aim to get to the byline and whip it in or cut inside to create shooting opportunities. This setup creates many chances for runs in behind and allows the forwards to combine in tight spaces to break the defensive line.

One major strength for Göztepe is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The numerical superiority in the attacking and midfield zones allows the team to create wide overloads and constant pressure. Another advantage is the speed of transition, as the proximity of the midfield to the four attackers allows for rapid attacks.

This 2-4-4 formation is a high risk, high reward system built for total dominance in the attacking third. It is best suited for games where Göztepe needs to break down a team that is sitting deep in a low block.
