Prioritizing a defensive block and quick transitions, this team relies on a 5-4-1 formation. The lineup is built to sit deep and frustrate opponents before hitting them on the break. This system focuses on compactness in the middle and wide areas to deny space for the opposition.

SEELER stays between the posts to command the area and organize the defensive line. The back five features BECKENBAUER in the center as a ball playing defender who can step into midfield to help build play. To his left, NETZER acts as a covering defender, while PIRRI provides aerial strength and physical presence on the right side of the central trio. The wing backs, AMANCIO on the left and GENTO on the right, are tasked with providing width. They must track back to form a narrow defensive block when out of possession but push high to overlap the midfielders when the team wins the ball.

A flat four-man midfield works to compress the space between the lines. FIGUEROA and PERFUMO act as the central duo, tasked with sitting in front of the back five to shield the defense and win the second ball. FIGUEROA works to intercept passes and recycle possession to the wide players. On the flanks, WILSON and SEGARRA provide the engine to cover the entire width of the pitch. WILSON and SEGARRA must press in pairs to force the opposition wide and prevent them from playing through the middle. This group connects the defense to the attack by moving the ball quickly to the flanks.

The attacking plan revolves around a lone striker, MAZURKIEWICZ, who serves as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opponent's back line. MAZURKIEWICZ is tasked to hold up the ball and wait for support to arrive. When the team transitions, the attack relies on the width provided by AMANCIO and GENTO to deliver crosses into the box. The midfielders look to play through the lines to find MAZURKIEWICZ or make late runs into the box to support the play. The goal is to isolate defenders in one on one situations once the team breaks quickly from a deep position.

The main advantages of this formation are the extreme compactness when defending and the ability to create wide overloads. By sitting in a low block, the team makes it difficult for opponents to find gaps, forcing them to play wide where the wing backs and wide midfielders can double up on attackers. The speed of transition allows the team to exploit the space left behind an attacking opponent.

This 5-4-1 formation is designed for a team that wants to remain defensively solid and strike on the break. It is best suited for matches against dominant sides where controlling the game through possession is not the primary goal.
