Starting Lineup
Cosa (2009) · Huszti · Pedro Paul · Draghici · Artean · Chitu · Vasluian · Toma · Stefanovici · Doana (2007) · PopescuA high press and aggressive verticality define this lineup in a 3-5-2. This formation aims to suffocate the opposition in their own half and win the ball back high up the pitch to launch immediate attacks. The team looks to control the center of the pitch and use a heavy presence in the middle to break the lines and move the ball forward quickly.
Cosa acts as the last line of defense, playing behind a back three that provides both central security and width. Pedro Paul sits in the center of the defense to command the area and win the header. Toma and Huszti operate on either side, with Toma acting as a left-sided center-back to cover the flank and Huszti providing strength on the right. This unit can push up to a high line to squeeze the space, leaving Cosa to sweep behind them when the opposition tries to play long.
The midfield is built around a massive five man unit that dominates the central areas. Vasluian and Stefanovici form a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Draghici sits just ahead of them to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while Artean and Popescu operate in the half spaces to drive forward with the ball. This heavy midfield presence allows the team to recycle possession quickly and ensure that the passing lanes to the attackers are always open.
Up front, the team utilizes two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defense. Doana and Chitu work closely to combine in tight spaces, using quick one-two passes to bypass the opposition back line. Both players press from the front to force a long ball and disrupt the build up play of the opponent. When the ball moves wide, they look to make runs in behind to exploit the space left by the opposition.
This lineup offers a significant advantage through numerical superiority in midfield. By flooding the center, the team can easily win the battle for possession and use the width of the pitch to switch play. The coordination between the five midfielders and the three defenders creates a compact block that is very difficult to play through once the ball is lost.
This 3-5-2 formation relies on intense pressing and dominance in the middle of the park. It is best suited for games where the team needs to overwhelm the opponent through central control and high energy.
