Independiente aims to win the ball high up the pitch and strike with speed through the transitions in a 5-2-3. This formation focuses on creating a compact defensive block while using wide areas to stretch the opposition. The team looks to control games by compressing the space between the lines and forcing long balls from the opponent.

Rey plays behind a back five to provide security and sweep behind the line when needed. Marcone acts as the central anchor in the middle of the defense, while Valdéz and Arrayago sit on either side to hold the line. Tagliafico (c) operates as a left wing back, providing width and overlapping to support the attack, while Godoy performs a similar role on the right flank. The defensive unit works together to defend zonally and ensure no runner can slip through the middle.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Pérez Curci and Millán work to shield the defense and intercept passes before the opposition can progress. They are responsible for connecting the defense to the attack by recycling possession and finding the forwards. These two players must press aggressively to win the ball back and then immediately look to find the wide players or the striker.

Independiente uses three attackers across the front to pin the last defender. Módica acts as the lone striker, often holding up the ball to wait for support. Barco plays as an inverted winger on the left, cutting inside to create chances, while Montiel stays wide on the right to deliver crosses. This attacking lineup creates many runs in behind and looks to hit in behind on the transition to exploit gaps in the opposition defense.

One major tactical advantage for Independiente is the wide overloads created when Tagliafico (c) and Godoy push up the flanks. This forces the opposition to defend more area and often leaves their midfielders out of position. The formation also offers great compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The speed of transition from the double pivot to the front three allows the team to counter at pace.

This 5-2-3 formation is built for a team that wants to be difficult to break down while remaining lethal on the break. It is best suited for facing teams that commit many players forward and leave space behind their defensive line.
