Starting Lineup

G. RAMOS (9) · PULISIC (11) · MOREIRA (22) · A. SCOTT (8) · RABIOT (12) · ALEXIS (56) · PAVLOVIC (31) · DE WINTER (5) · M. GILA (32) · P. FODEN (10) · MAIGNAN (16)

Milan focuses on a high press and rapid verticality with a 3-4-3. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opposition can recover. The goal is to stretch the defence through wide areas while maintaining a strong presence in the middle to control the tempo.

Mike Maignan works behind a back three to organize the defensive unit. De Winter acts as the central man to sweep behind a high line, while Pavlovic and M. Gila operate as the side centre-backs. Pavlovic provides strength in the air and M. Gila covers the space to ensure the team does not get caught on the break. This back three allows the team to build in triangles from the back and spread wide when playing out from the back.

The midfield works as a four-man unit to bridge the gap between the defence and the attack. Rabiot and A. Scott form a central pairing where Rabiot seeks to carry the ball forward and A. Scott works to intercept passes and protect the defensive line. On the flanks, Alexis and Moreira act as wide midfielders who provide width and help the wingers. They must track back to help the defenders while also being ready to spring the offside trap or push high to support the front line.

Up front, Milan uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Pulisic operates as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside, while P. Foden plays on the right to find space between the lines. G. Ramos serves as the central striker to hold up the ball and provide a focal point. This front three works to press the opposition back line, looking to create runs in behind or deliver cutbacks from the byline when the wingers get to the edge of the area.

Milan benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three to force long balls. The wide presence of Alexis and Moreira allows for wide overloads from the midfielders, which can isolate the opponent's full backs in one on one situations. This formation also provides stability through the central pairing of Rabiot and A. Scott, making it hard for teams to play through the lines.

This 3-4-3 formation offers a direct and aggressive way to dominate games through pressing. It is best suited for matches against teams that try to play out from the back and struggle under heavy pressure.
