Starting Lineup

Appo · Stiv · Karl · Scolly · D. Oakes · Alan · Martin · Clacky · Pav · Kev · Scottie

Prioritizing control and heavy central presence, this lineup utilizes a 3-5-2 formation. The team seeks to dominate the middle of the pitch and use a high press to win the ball back quickly. This system is built to play a vertical game, looking to transition from a mid-block into direct attacking movements.

Scottie operates between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a central trio where Martin acts as the main anchor. Appo plays as the right centre-back to cover the wide areas, while Stiv occupies the left centre-back position. This back three focuses on holding the line and winning the second ball to prevent opposition counters. The defenders must stay compact to deny the turn to any oncoming attackers.

The midfield is the engine of the team, operating with a single pivot and a diamond-like core. Pav sits in the deepest role to shield the defence and collect the ball from the centre-backs. Ahead of him, Karl and Clacky operate as the central midfielders, driving forward with the ball to link the play. Alan provides additional coverage on the left side of the midfield, helping to compress the midfield when the team drops into a mid-block. Scolly plays as the attacking ten, looking to find pockets of space and arrive late into the box to support the forwards.

The attack relies on a partnership of two forwards to stretch the opposition. Kev leads the line as the left striker, looking to make runs in behind the defence. D. Oakes plays as the right striker, often acting to hold up the ball and find the feet of the oncoming midfielders. These two work together to press the opposition back line and force long balls. When the team builds in possession, the front two often combine in tight spaces to create chances through quick one-twos.

One major advantage of this formation is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows the team to control the tempo. By having five players in the middle, they can easily overload the central zone. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using Scolly and the strikers to trigger a press that forces errors. This setup allows the team to switch play quickly once the ball is won back.

This 3-5-2 formation is designed for teams that want to dictate play through a crowded central zone. It is best suited for matches against opponents who play with a narrow midfield and struggle to deal with late runs into the box.
