Starting Lineup

Gril · Twumasi · Lewicki · Czerwinski · Rivas · Labojko · Boisgard · Vallejo · Lima · Ntamack · Sanca

Piast prioritizes defensive solidity and quick transitions, using a 5-4-1 formation to sit deep and frustrate opponents. This lineup is built to absorb heavy pressure and strike through direct play. The team aims to deny space between the lines, making them difficult to break down in a mid-block.

Sanca plays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a back five with Boisgard and Labojko acting as the central defenders to hold the line and win headers. Ntamack sits alongside them to provide extra cover and protect the central area. Lima and Vallejo act as attacking wing backs, tasked to provide width and track back quickly when possession is lost. This unit works to keep the space compact and forces the opposition to play wide.

The midfield works as a flat four to maintain a narrow defensive block. Czerwinski and Rivas operate as the central pairing, where they look to win the second ball and recycle possession. Czerwinski works to shield the defence, while Rivas looks to carry the ball forward to connect the lines. On the flanks, Lewicki and Twumasi provide width in the midfield, pressing the opposition wide players and trying to hit in behind on the transition. This midfield group stays close together to deny the turn to central attackers.

Piast utilizes a lone striker in Gril to lead the line. Gril acts as a pressing centre-forward, working to pin the last defender and disrupt the opposition build up. The attacking plan relies on the wing backs, Lima and Vallejo, to push high and deliver crosses into the box. When the team wins the ball, the forwards look to break quickly, using the width provided by the wide midfielders and wing backs to stretch the defence. Gril must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to arrive late into the box.

One major advantage of this Piast lineup is the compactness when defending, which makes it very hard for opponents to find passing lanes through the middle. The combination of a back five and a flat midfield four creates a wall that is difficult to penetrate. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the team can move from a low block to an attacking phase in seconds using the wide runners.

The 5-4-1 formation provides a very disciplined defensive presence that is difficult to break down. It is best suited for games against high possession teams where Piast can sit deep and counter at pace.
