Starting Lineup

JAMA (c) · ZAID · KEATHON · TROY · QEEB · NIYAAZ · A.I · KEENAN/VINCENT · L · HUSTLA · A.I

Man City focuses on controlling the ball and dominating territory through a 4-3-3 formation. The lineup is built to play a possession based game that seeks to pin the opponent into their own half. By keeping the ball and moving it through the thirds, Man City aims to break down defensive blocks and create constant passing lanes.

A.I operates between the posts to start play from the back. The defensive unit works as a flat back four with L acting as a reliable full back on the right side. KEATHON plays as the left back, ready to overlap and provide width. In the center, HUSTLA and A.I form the heart of the defense, where they work together to defend zonally and cover for one another. They focus on holding the line and keeping the distance between the back four and the midfield compact.

The midfield is built around a three man midfield with a carrier. NIYAAZ and ZAID operate in the central roles, where they work to recycle possession and protect the center of the pitch. ZAID acts to shield the defense, while NIYAAZ looks to drive forward with the ball to break the lines. TROY plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, operating in the pockets to connect the defensive and attacking lines. This trio works to compress the midfield and win the ball back high up the pitch when possession is lost.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers across the front. QEEB operates as a wide winger on the left, while JAMA (c) plays as an inverted winger on the right who likes to cut inside to create chances. JAMA (c) leads the group and provides much needed leadership on the pitch. KEENAN/VINCENT operates as a lone striker, working to hold up the ball and lay it off to oncoming runners. The front three press from the front to force a long ball and create chances for quick transitions.

One major advantage for Man City is the ability to create wide overloads by using the movement of the full backs and wingers. Another strength is the numerical superiority in midfield which allows them to control the tempo of the game. The coordination between the three central midfielders makes it difficult for opponents to find space between the lines.

This 4-3-3 formation is designed for teams that want to dominate the ball and dictate the rhythm of the match. It is best suited for games against opponents that sit deep and defend in a low block.
