Sassuolo aims to control the tempo and squeeze the space in the center of the pitch through a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to play with a heavy emphasis on defensive solidity and organized pressing to disrupt the opponent. By using a dense midfield block, the team can control the rhythm of the game and remain difficult to break down.

Éder Fonteles starts between the posts to organize the defensive line. Sassuolo employs a flat back four that relies on disciplined positioning to deny the turn to opposition attackers. Dúbravka operates as the right back, while William Alves handles the left side, both tasked to hold the line when the team drops deep. In the center, P. Lanza and Gabri Martin act as the primary defenders, with P. Lanza looking to win the second ball and Gabri Martin providing cover to sweep behind the line. The unit works together to maintain a compact shape and protect the central zone.

The midfield is the engine of this 4-5-1, functioning as a five man block that connects the defense to the attack. Leozão D. and D. Lincoln form a double pivot to shield the defense and win back possession. They are supported by Edu Andrade and T. Bosco, who operate in the half spaces to recycle possession and link play. Uriel Cruz plays as the attacking ten behind the striker, tasked to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box to create a threat. This group works to compress the midfield and force a long ball from the opposition.

In the attacking phase, K. Berger acts as a lone striker to lead the line. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to push forward and join the attack. The wide players in the midfield five are expected to provide width and support the wings, often looking to deliver early crosses or cut it back to the edge of the area. The team builds attacks by playing short from the back and progressing through the thirds to find the pockets of space between the opponent's midfield and defense. K. Berger also leads the press from the front to trigger a press in a mid-block.

One major advantage for Sassuolo is the ability to create numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. With five players in the middle, they can easily pick up runners and deny the pivot of the opposition. Another strength is the compactness when defending, which makes it hard for opponents to play through the lines. This setup allows the team to shift quickly to either side to cover gaps and win it back high up the pitch when the ball enters specific zones.

This formation provides a reliable defensive base that is hard to penetrate. It is best suited for matches against teams that rely on central playmaking and require a disciplined block to stop their progress.
