Starting Lineup

Pak Aliyus · Gino (Gulit) · Fauzi · Anton · Rijal · Thora (Wendri) · Aza · Luis (Fajri) · Budi · Iwan · Rahman

A heavy emphasis on direct attacking play defines this lineup in a 4-2-4. The team aims to stretch the defence and hit the opposition with speed in transition, looking to overwhelm the back line through high numbers up the pitch. This formation is built to play a vertical game, moving the ball quickly from the defensive third to the front four to catch opponents out of position.

Pak Aliyus guards the goal as the last line of defence. Behind the midfield, the back four functions as a flat line to maintain compactness. Fauzi and Rijal operate as the central pair, where Fauzi acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks while Rijal focuses on covering space and winning the second ball. Anton and Gino play as wide defenders, tasked with tracking back to defend against crosses and providing support when the team wins possession.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to provide a foundation for the attacking players. Thora and Aza act as the engine room, with one player often dropping deeper to shield the defence while the other attempts to carry the ball forward. They must work hard to win the ball back in a mid-block and immediately look to play through the lines to find the front four. This duo connects the defensive unit to the attack, ensuring the team does not become too disconnected when the ball is lost.

Attacking the opposition is the main priority with three attackers across the front line and two strikers. Luis and Rahman act as wide wingers who look to stretch the pitch, while Luis often cuts inside to create space for Gino to overlap. Iwan and Budi lead the line as a central partnership, with one player often acting as a target man to hold up the ball and the other looking to make runs in behind. This front four can press from the front in pairs to force a long ball from the opposition.

This formation offers a significant advantage through its ability to create wide overloads and numerical superiority in the final third. By committing four players to the attack, the team can pin the last defender and isolate wide players in one on one situations. The speed of transition is another key strength, as the team can quickly switch play to catch the opposition before they can set their defensive block.

The 4-2-4 formation is a high risk, high reward lineup that prioritises offensive pressure. It is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a low block or hunt for goals against an opponent that struggles with quick verticality.
