Starting Lineup

Dahl · Adamsen · Y. Demir · Wurmbrand · Horn · Seidl · J. Auer · Bolla · Raux Yao · Schöller · Hedl

SK Rapid prioritizes a high press and rapid verticality through a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup focuses on squeezing the space in the opposition half to win it back high up the pitch. The intent is to use a massive midfield presence to dominate the center of the park and force turnovers. By committing many bodies forward, the team seeks to overwhelm the opponent with numbers in the final third.

Hedl acts as the lone man at the back, serving as a sweeper behind a high line. The two central defenders, Raux Yao and Schöller, must be prepared to cover large amounts of space when the team pushes up. Raux Yao and Schöller operate as ball playing defenders who need to play short from the back to start the buildup. This defensive duo must be extremely disciplined to defend against long balls and keep the offside trap intact while the rest of the team sits much higher.

The midfield is the engine of SK Rapid, utilizing a five man unit to control the tempo. Bolla and J. Auer act as a deep lying playmaker pairing to shield the defense and recycle possession. Seidl and Horn operate as two tens in the half spaces, looking to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Y. Demir plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, tasked to find the feet of the striker and play through the lines. This crowded midfield allows the team to compress the midfield and win the second ball frequently.

The attacking front line uses three attackers to stretch the defense wide and down the middle. Dahl and Wurmbrand operate as wide wingers who hug the touchline to pull the opposing full backs out of position. Adamsen works as a lone striker, acting as a pressing centre forward to disrupt the opposition buildup. The goal is to create runs in behind or allow Dahl and Wurmbrand to cut inside and find space. The team relies on combinations in tight spaces to split the defense with a through ball.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The five man midfield creates a massive numerical superiority in the center, allowing SK Rapid to dominate possession and control the game. Additionally, the wide positioning of Dahl and Wurmbrand allows for quick switches of play to find isolated wide players in one on one situations.

This formation is built for aggressive, high intensity football that relies on winning the ball in advanced areas. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play under heavy pressure or those that sit in a low block.
