Starting Lineup

This team relies on a heavy high press and vertical play through a 3-5-2 formation. The lineup is designed to win the ball back high up the pitch and use a direct attacking style to exploit gaps between the lines. By using a central block with wide players, they look to control the tempo through central dominance and quick transitions.

Samu acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit functions with a back three consisting of Sebas, Rubén, and Urti. Sebas and Urti act as wide centre-backs who can shift to cover the space behind the wingers, while Rubén holds the line in the center. This back three stays compact to deny the turn to strikers and works to sweep behind a high line when the team pushes forward.

The midfield acts as a dense engine room to control the center of the pitch. Gorka operates as an attacking ten behind the strikers, finding pockets of space to play through the lines. Ahead of him, Ibai and Unai form a double pivot that shields the defense and helps to recycle possession. To provide the necessary width, Zuga and Aimar play as wide midfielders who can push up to support the attack or drop back to create a five man defensive block.

The attack uses a partnership of two forwards to pin the last defender. Razquin and Juanpa work closely together to combine in tight spaces and hunt for runs in behind the opposition back line. Razquin often looks to pull wide to stretch the defence, while Juanpa acts to hold up the ball and lay it off to arriving midfielders. Their pressing from the front is vital to trigger a press that forces long balls from the opposition.

One major strength is the ability to create wide overloads when Zuga and Aimar push high to join the attack. The team also finds success through numerical superiority in midfield when Ibai and Unai congest the central zone. This makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle, forcing them to play wide where the back three and wingers can double up on players.
