Starting Lineup

Samu · Urti · Pablo · Sebas · Zuga · Unai · Ibai · Razquin · Eneko · Juanpa · Álvaro

A high press and verticality define the way this team plays through a 4-3-3. The goal is to win it back high up the pitch and immediately attack the space behind the opposition defense. This formation works to stretch the defense and create rapid attacking combinations in the final third.

Samu acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back four consists of Zuga at right back and Razquin at left back, both tasked to overlap the winger and provide width. In the center, Urti and Sebas form a central pair to defend zonally and clear the lines when under pressure. The defensive unit aims to squeeze the space and move up as a single block to maintain a high line.

The midfield operates with a three-man midfield with a carrier and an attacking ten. Ibai and Unai sit in the middle to control the tempo and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Eneko plays as an advanced midfielder in the hole to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box. Ibai and Unai work to protect the center and win the second ball, allowing Eneko to push forward and find pockets of space.

In the attacking third, the team uses three attackers across the front. Pablo works as a lone striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender, while Álvaro and Juanpa act as wide wingers. Álvaro prefers to cut inside to create central presence, whereas Juanpa stays wider to pull the defense apart and deliver crosses. The front three press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

One major strength of this lineup is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By pushing the forwards and Eneko up, the team can trigger a press in the opponent half. Another advantage is the wide overloads created when Razquin and Zuga push forward to support Álvaro and Juanpa. This allows the team to quickly switch play and isolate wide players in one on one situations.

This 4-3-3 lineup relies on high intensity and quick transitions to catch opponents out. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
