Boca Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Montero · Lozano · Di Lollo · Herrera · Blanco · Paredes · Ascacibar · Delgado · Velasco · Merentiel · xBoca plays a direct and vertical style of football using a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup aims to control the tempo through a central core while using quick transitions to catch opponents off guard. The team looks to win the second ball and move the play forward rapidly to feed the strikers.
Montero acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back four operates as a flat line where Lozano acts as the right back and Blanco plays as the left back. Di Lollo and Herrera form the central pairing, with Di Lollo focusing on covering space and Herrera acting as a dominant presence in the air. The defensive unit works to stay compact and squeeze the space between the lines to prevent passes through the middle.
The midfield functions as a four man unit with Paredes acting as the single pivot to shield the defense. Ascacibar and Delgado play as the central midfielders, with Ascacibar working to drive forward with the ball and Delgado looking to intercept passes. Velasco plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers to connect the midfield to the attack. Paredes works to recycle possession and find the feet of the midfielders to progress through the thirds.
Boca uses two forwards in a partnership at the front. Merentiel acts as the primary striker, using his strength to hold up the ball and fight for duels. x plays alongside him to make runs in behind and stretch the defense. The attack is built through combinations in tight spaces or by using the width provided by the full backs. When the team wins the ball high up the pitch, the forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball.
A major strength of this Boca lineup is the ability to create numerical superiority in the center of the pitch when Velasco moves between the lines. The team also shows great compactness when defending in a mid-block, making it difficult for opponents to find passing lanes. This allows the side to win the ball and break quickly.
This 4-4-2 formation is designed to be a hard unit to break down. It is best suited for games against teams that play with a high line and can be punished on the transition.
