PAOK aims to play a high intensity, vertical game using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup focuses on direct play and heavy pressure to force mistakes from the opposition. By stretching the pitch with four attackers, the team looks to overwhelm the opponent in the final third and strike quickly during transitions.

In goal, 76 acts as the last line of defense. The back line operates as a flat back four with 76 on the right and 79 on the left. The central pairing consists of 77 and 81, who work to hold the line and defend zonally. Both 76 and 79 act as full backs, looking to push up and support the attack, while 77 and 81 focus on winning the second ball and covering the space behind the advancing wide players.

The midfield functions as a double pivot to provide stability. The two players, 81 and 80, sit in front of the defense to shield the back four. Their main job is to win it back high up the pitch and quickly distribute the ball to the attackers. They must work to compress the midfield and prevent the opposition from playing through the lines, acting as the vital link that carries the ball forward from the defensive third to the attacking half.

The attacking line is built around a four man front. On the flanks, 81 and 79 act as wide wingers to spread the defense wide. They often look to cut inside to create space for the full backs or to find the central forwards. In the center, 80 and 81 operate as two forwards in a partnership. They press from the front to disrupt the opposition build up and look to receive the ball to find the feet of the striker or make runs in behind.

A major tactical strength for PAOK is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs join the wingers. This setup also allows for a very aggressive press in coordinated waves, making it hard for the opponent to play out from the back. The formation is designed to create many one on one situations for the wide players by stretching the opposition defensive block.

This 4-2-4 formation is built for a high tempo, attacking style of football. It is best suited for matches where PAOK needs to break down a deep defensive block or punish an opponent on the transition.
