Man City focuses on controlling the ball and using high pressure to dominate games through a 4-3-3. This lineup is built to keep possession in deep areas and move the ball through the lines to create chances. The team looks to control the tempo of the game by keeping the ball and moving the opposition around.

Rulli sits between the posts to start the build up from the back. The defense operates as a flat back four with Ait Nouri and Lewis acting as full backs. Ait Nouri can overlap to provide width on the left while Lewis tucks in or pushes up to support the midfield. In the center, Khusanov and Reis form the heart of the defense, with Khusanov acting as a ball playing defender to help play short from the back. The defensive unit works to squeeze the space and push the line up to keep the team compact.

The midfield uses a three man midfield with a carrier to manage the center of the pitch. Bouaddi plays as a single pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Kovacic acts as the engine, driving forward with the ball and connecting the defensive and attacking lines with his passing range. OReilly works alongside him to help recycle possession and press in a mid-block to win the ball back. This trio works to control the middle and ensure the team can transition between defense and attack safely.

Man City attacks using three attackers across the front. Foden plays as a false nine who drops into midfield to create space for others. This movement allows Allan and Mcaidoo to act as wide wingers who cut inside to attack the box. Allan stays wide to stretch the defense before moving into central areas, while Mcaidoo looks to isolate a one on one wide. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and win the ball high up the pitch.

This formation offers Man City significant control through numerical superiority in midfield. The ability to use the full backs to create wide overloads allows the team to stretch the opposition. By having Foden drop deep, the team can often create overloads in the central areas to bypass the midfield.

This 4-3-3 is designed to dominate possession and use high pressing to win the ball back quickly. It is best suited for games where the team wants to control the rhythm and pin the opponent in their own half.
