Volos relies on a defensive identity built to sit deep and strike on the transition, utilizing a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is designed to deny space between the lines and force the opposition into wide areas where they can be contained. By staying compact, Volos aims to absorb pressure and wait for the right moment to hit in behind.

In goal, Siampanis acts as the final line of defense. The back line is a narrow defensive block consisting of three central defenders, Lecoeuche, Kargas, and Agyakwa. Lecoeuche sits in the middle to direct the line, while Kargas and Agyakwa cover the channels. To provide width, Mendyl and Tasiouras operate as attacking wing backs. They are tasked to drop back to form a five when defending but push high to provide width when the team wins the ball. The unit functions to keep the distance between the defense and midfield minimal.

The midfield operates as a flat four to maintain horizontal compactness. Burnic and Comba form the central pairing, tasked to shield the defense and win the second ball. Burnic works to disrupt play, while Comba looks to connect the defensive and attacking lines by recycling possession. On the flanks, Gonzalez and Lamprou provide the width in the middle third. They must track back to help the wing backs and press in a mid-block to close down passing lanes. This unit works to compress the midfield and prevent opponents from playing through the lines.

Volos uses a lone striker, Hurtado, to lead the line. Hurtado acts as a pressing centre-forward, working to pin the last defender and harass the opposition back line. When the team transitions, the attack relies on Hurtado to hold up the ball and wait for support. The wingers, Gonzalez and Lamprou, look to stretch the defence by pushing high, while the wing backs attempt to overlap the winger to create overloads. The goal is to create runs in behind or deliver crosses into the box during quick breaks.

One major advantage for Volos is the ability to maintain extreme compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to find gaps. The formation also allows for speed of transition, as the wing backs can immediately push high to support Hurtado. This setup makes the team very hard to break down in a low block, forcing opponents to try and play around the perimeter.

This 5-4-1 formation provides a solid foundation for teams that prefer to defend deep and play on the counter. It is best suited for matches against dominant sides where Volos can deny space and strike quickly.
