LASK relies on a heavy high press and lightning fast transitions using a 5-2-3. This formation is built to win the ball high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opposition can settle. The goal is to use wide players to stretch the defence and create direct paths to the goal.
In goal, 77 keeps things secure while the back line sits in a compact block. The formation utilizes a back three with 78 acting as the central anchor. Flanking the middle are 77 and 77 as wide centre-backs who must step up to meet attackers. The wide roles are filled by 77 as an attacking wing back on the left and 77 as an attacking wing back on the right. These players are expected to push high to provide width, leaving the central defenders to cover the space behind them.
The midfield works as a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Both 76 and 76 act as the engine room, tasked with breaking up play and winning the second ball. One 76 will look to shield the defence, while the other 76 focuses on carrying the ball forward to connect the lines. They must remain disciplined to ensure the team does not get caught on the counter, often dropping deep to support the build up from the back.
LASK attacks with three players across the front line. The winger 80 stays wide to pull the opposition out of position, while 78 operates as an inverted winger to cut inside and create chances. On the opposite side, 77 occupies the right flank to deliver crosses. At the tip of the attack, 77 acts as a pressing centre-forward to lead the hunt for the ball. This trio looks to attack in combinations, using quick one-twos to find gaps in the defence.
This lineup offers great strength in wide overloads because the wing backs and wingers can double up on defenders. LASK also benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The presence of a back three ensures compactness when defending deep.
LASK is built for a direct and aggressive style of play. This formation is best suited for games against teams that play a high line or struggle to handle intense pressure in their own half.
