Armenia aims to play a direct and resilient style of football using a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball in the middle of the pitch and using quick transitions to catch opponents out. The team is built to sit in a mid-block and deny space between the lines, relying on a crowded midfield to frustrate the opposition before looking for Markarov up top.

ABRAHAMYAN guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back four functions as a zonal line with HAMBARDZUMYAN and SEMERDZHYAN acting as full backs to provide width and track back when needed. In the heart of the defense, KHACHATRYAN and KOVALENKO work together to defend zonally and clear the lines. They aim to hold the line and prevent runners from getting behind, making sure the defensive unit stays compact to protect the area in front of ABRAHAMYAN.

A crowded five man midfield provides the core of this Armenia team. The double pivot of BONDARENKO and ZANAZANYAN sits deep to shield the defense and protect the center. In front of them, MKHITARYAN uses his passing range and experience to connect the defensive and attacking lines. ANDREASYAN and OGANESIAN occupy the central spaces to win the second ball and press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch. This midfield group is tasked to compress the midfield and deny the turn to any opposition attackers.

The attacking plan relies on a lone striker, Markarov, who must work hard to press the opposition back line. Since there are no wide wingers in this specific lineup, the team builds play through the center or uses the full backs to provide width. Markarov needs to hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to arrive late into the box. The goal is to create link-up play between the lines and find the feet of the striker to trigger a quick break toward the goal.

One major strength of this 4-5-1 formation is the ability to achieve compactness when defending. By crowding the central areas, BONDARENKO, ZANAZANYAN, MKHITARYAN, ANDREASYAN, and OGANESIAN make it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. Another advantage is the speed of transition, where the team can bypass the midfield and hit in behind on the transition once the ball is recovered.

Armenia utilizes this setup to remain defensively solid and strike on the break. This formation is best suited for games against teams that dominate possession and require a disciplined low block.
