A heavy emphasis on direct attacking and high pressure defines AGF and their use of a 4-2-4. This formation is built to stretch the defence and overwhelm the opposition through sheer numbers in the final third. The lineup aims to win the ball back high up the pitch and transition immediately toward the goal.

In goal, 72 acts as the last line of defence. The back line operates as a flat back four, where 76 at left back and 75 at right back provide the width. These full backs must track back quickly to cover the space when the team loses possession. In the center, 75 as the left centre back and 70 as the right centre back defend zonally, focusing on holding the line and clearing the lines when under pressure. The unit functions to keep the team compact while the rest of the side pushes high.

The midfield consists of a double pivot to provide some stability. 80 acts as the primary driver, looking to carry the ball forward and link the defensive unit to the attack. Alongside him, 76 works to shield the defence and intercept passes before they reach the final third. This pairing is tasked with winning the second ball and recycling possession to ensure the front four stay high up the pitch. They must be disciplined to avoid being bypassed by central runners.

The attacking line is extremely aggressive, featuring two forwards in a partnership and two wide wingers. The two centre forwards, 76 and 78, act as the main goal threats, looking to run in behind or hold up the ball to allow others to join. On the flanks, 76 as the left winger and 75 as the right winger stay wide to stretch the defence and provide crosses. This front four is designed to press from the front, forcing the opposition into mistakes and creating chances through rapid combination play.

AGF gains a significant advantage through the numerical superiority they create in the attacking third. By keeping four players high, they force the opposition back line to drop deep, which opens up space for the double pivot to arrive late into the box. Additionally, the ability to attack in combinations allows the team to isolate wide players in one on one situations when the wingers receive the ball in space.

This 4-2-4 formation is a high risk, high reward setup geared toward aggressive, vertical football. It is best suited for matches where the team needs to chase a result against a side that plays a deeper block.
