Aizawl Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Zoa · Rammuana · Remsiama · Emma · CS Tuang · Jacob · Drewtea · Zorina · Msa · Faka · TapuiaAizawl focuses on a defensive identity, sitting deep to absorb pressure and striking through quick transitions in a 5-4-1. This formation is built to protect the central areas and deny space to the opposition, making it a heavy way to play when the team needs to keep a clean sheet. The lineup aims to squeeze the space between the lines, forcing opponents to play wide before looking to break quickly when they win the ball back.
Jacob stays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back five consists of a narrow defensive block where CS Tuang and Drewtea act as the central pillars. Faka sits on the left side of this trio to provide cover. Remsiama and Tapuia act as wing backs, tasked with providing width in attack but mainly focusing on tracking back to form a flat back five when defending. This unit works to hold the line and ensure the opposition cannot play through the middle.
The midfield operates as a flat four to protect the central zone. Msa and Rammuana sit in the middle to shield the defence and win the second ball. Msa acts as a carrier to move the ball forward, while Rammuana works to intercept passes and disrupt the opponent. Emma and Zoa occupy the wide areas to press in a mid-block and cover the space left by the wing backs. This midfield group connects the defensive line to the lone striker by recycling possession and looking to break the line once the ball is regained.
Aizawl utilizes a lone striker in Zorina to lead the line. Zorina acts as a target man to hold up the ball and wait for support. The attacking plan relies on the wing backs, Remsiama and Tapuia, to provide width and deliver crosses into the box. Emma and Zoa will look to cut inside to create overloads in the half spaces. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball, allowing the defenders to win the header and restart the attack.
This formation offers significant compactness when defending, making it very hard to penetrate the central channels. Aizawl also benefits from the ability to strike on the transition, using the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the defence. The heavy presence of five defenders ensures that the team stays solid against teams that rely on crosses or high volume shooting.
Aizawl is a team designed to absorb pressure and hit opponents on the break. This formation is best suited for matches against superior ball controlling sides where sitting deep is necessary to avoid being split by through balls.
