KuPS focuses on a direct and hard to break down style of play using a 4-4-2. This formation is built to play with verticality and can transition from a compact defensive block to a sharp attack very quickly. The lineup aims to control the central areas while using the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition.
In goal, 69 acts as the last line of defense to sweep up any danger. The back line works as a flat back four to maintain a tight line and squeeze the space between the units. 65 on the right and 65 on the left serve as full backs who must balance their duties to stop crosses and track back when the team loses the ball. In the heart of the defense, 64 and 68 operate as central defenders tasked with winning the second ball and clearing the lines when the pressure mounts. They work together to maintain a solid defensive block that is difficult to penetrate.
The midfield relies on a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. 66 and 65 sit in front of the defense to shield the back four and deny the turn to opposing playmakers. These two players are vital to intercept passes and win possession back quickly. Ahead of them, 70 and 70 operate in the half spaces as attacking midfielders. They are responsible for connecting the defensive and attacking lines by receiving the ball and playing through the lines. Their role is to find pockets of space and arrive late into the box to support the attack.
KuPS utilizes two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. The striker 71 plays as the main goal threat, looking to make runs in behind the defense to exploit high lines. Beside him, 66 acts as a second striker who can hold up the ball and link up play with the advancing midfielders. This duo works to pin the last defender and create space for the attacking midfielders to move forward. When the team wins the ball, they look to hit in behind on the transition or use the wide areas to deliver crosses into the box.
A major advantage for KuPS is the ability to maintain compactness when defending in a mid-block. This makes it very hard for opponents to find passing lanes through the center. Another strength is the speed of transition, where the movement of 70 and 70 allows the team to shift from a defensive stance to an attacking threat in seconds. This creates wide overloads and forces the opposition to cover a lot of ground.
This 4-4-2 formation provides a reliable balance between defensive solidity and attacking intent. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line or rely heavily on possession.
