Jankowski (18) · Szychulski (2) · Kwaśniewski (5) · Feter (8) · Szablewski (4) · Szczerbicki (14)A focus on defensive solidity and rapid transitions defines this team, which operates in a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and deny space in the middle, waiting to hit opponents on the break. The primary goal is to remain compact and frustrate the opposition before looking to exploit gaps.
Borowy acts as the last line of defense, commanding his area from goal. The defensive unit sits in a narrow defensive block with three central defenders. Feter sits in the middle of the trio, while Szablewski and Kwaśniewski operate on either side to cover the channels. Szychulski and Szczerbicki act as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing the width and tracking back to form a back five when the team loses the ball. The unit works together to protect the central zone and win the second ball.
In front of the defense, a flat four-man midfield works to squeeze the space. R. Jankowski and Kaczorowski form the central pairing, tasked with protecting the center and breaking up play. R. Jankowski focuses on screening the back line, while Kaczorowski looks to carry the ball forward. Będziak and P. Jankowski operate as wide midfielders, tasked with tracking the opposition full backs and helping to win the ball high up the pitch when needed. This group connects the defensive block to the lone striker.
The attacking phase relies on the lone striker, Kowalczyk, who must hold up the ball to allow others to join the play. Kowalczyk works as a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition build up from the back. Because the team uses a single striker, the width must come from Szychulski and Szczerbicki pushing high to stretch the defence. The plan is to move the ball quickly through the lines to find Kowalczyk or use the wide midfielders to hit in behind on the transition.
One major advantage of this formation is the extreme compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The team can also create wide overloads when the wing backs join the midfielders. This allows the squad to shift between a deep block and a more aggressive stance depending on the movement of the ball.
This 5-4-1 lineup is a defensive powerhouse built to frustrate dominant teams. It is best suited for matches where the opponent has high possession and the team needs to play on the counter.
